Requirements for Graduate Students Enrolled in Graduate Programs in the Department of Mathematics

I. FOR STUDENTS ENTERING THEIR PROGRAMS FALL 2003 OR LATER:

1. Each student is required to complete an entry survey. In this survey the student is asked why he/she chose his/her degree program and to list the goals he/she hopes to achieve through it. The entry survey is to be submitted to the chair of the Graduate Committee.

2. Each student is required to meet with the graduate coordinator during the first semester of graduate studies if not before. At this time the student completes a program of study, which lists the courses the student must take to obtain his/her degree.

3. Each student is required to maintain a portfolio containing (1) tests and final projects for all courses in the program of study and (2) the thesis/research study. It is sufficient to keep just one item from each course. This portfolio is to be submitted to the chair of the Graduate Committee during the semester the student is scheduled to graduate.

4. Each student enrolled in a graduate program is required to complete a thesis or research project in his/her area of study. Students are required to submit a Request for Independent Study form and a Request for Research Study form to the graduate coordinator prior to commencing the thesis or research project. This form is to be signed by the graduate coordinator.

5. Each student is required to complete an exit interview or survey during the semester the student is scheduled to graduate. This is submitted to the chair of the Graduate Committee.

II. FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN GRADUATE PROGRAMS BEFORE FALL 2003:

Students planning to graduate Winter 2005 or later are required to complete the thesis or research study (#4 above) and the exit interview (#5) above.
