2003-04 Lecture Series: Mathematics Across the Disciplines

Lecture #8:

Dr. Kathy Chu
Mathematics Department

The recent development of two high throughput biotechnologies – the genome sequencing technology and DNA chip technology produces the new field of science called Bioinformatics, which sprawls into many academic disciplines and creates one of the most exciting times for all quantitative researchers. In this talk, Dr. Chu will give an overview of the field and show how the probability and statistical reasoning can play a central role in this biology and informatics revolution.

Dr. Chu has been a leader in the Department of Mathematics in curriculum development for the bioinformatics program.
